This week we have been looking at different celebrations throughout various faiths, we have learnt about how Eid is celebrated, Passover, Hanukkah and what event Christians celebrate. We have used tissue paper to create stained glass windows, created our own mehndi patterns using cotton buds and we even got to taste samosas.
In maths this week we looks at time, different times of the day such as when we eat, sleep and come to school, how time is measured and towards the end of the week looked at how to tell the time using o’clock. We played o’clock bingo and made our own clocks.
The children had their first transition into year one on Tuesday with their new teacher Mr Parker They were excited to spend some time with him and on their return to class were enthusiastic about the move, which is reassuring to hear. Transition will continue for the next two weeks on Tuesday mornings. To help with transition talk positively to your child about the changes to help prepare them for their move in September.
Next week we will be starting an Under the Sea theme using a non-fiction information text Surprising Sharks!
Our Remarkable Rabbit this week went to Lucy for her resilience in writing as she has been practising very hard both in school and at home. We also had Poppy-Rose and Max on the Extraordinary Zone for their writing.
Poppy-Rose and Kyle also won a medal this week for winning the class agility test.
We also kindly ask for a donation towards our snack that is available for the children each day. This is in addition to the fruit and milk we receive. Payable via ParentPay. Thank you in advance.
Can you look on the internet or in a book to investigate about who or what lives in the sea? Can you draw a picture and/or write about what you have found?
As we are fast approaching the transition into year 1 we are encouraging the children to be more independent in their writing. You can support this at home by taking any opportunities that may arise where they show interest in something or have done an activity (for example; Today I went to the park with my mum and sister and had a picnic) Remind them to hold the sentence in their head first, use their finger spaces and sound out each word using Fred fingers.
Bring the sentences into school and we will celebrate them with the class in the morning and award Dojo’s. We are aiming for independent sentences, so don’t worry too much about spellings. We are celebrating that they have written a sentence all on their own.
Home reading books are changed on a Monday and Thursday, please make sure you have signed the reading log so we know your child has read then book.
