Week 7. Another great week of learning. The children have been amazing. We have had such a busy week. I can really see how they have settled into year 2 life and are becoming much more focused and building their resilience.

Maths

This week we have continued with addition and subtraction. This week we have been looking at different methods for adding and subtracting multiples of ten. Children have used their knowledge of place value to understand that the ones digit will stay the same and the tens will change. We have used base ten, hundred squares and jottings to support us. We have had a big focus on presentation this week and have introduced a new award for the 'neatest maths book' of the week.

ENGLISH

We have started reading a new book in English - The Dark by Lemony Snicket. The children have listened to spooky music, watched spooky trailers and drawn spooky images to help them develop their vocabulary. They then wrote spooky sentences and arranged these to create a group poem.

TOPIC

Our learning this week focused on a new significant person - Grace Darling. The children learnt why she is remembered today and wrote a fact file about her.  They have also been practising their sketching and painting skills ready to create a piece of space art based on the the artist Peter Thorpe's work.

Homework

Reading ( books changed every Wednesday)

Spelling  - on TEAMS. It is very important the children know how to spell all the year 1 common exception word (yellow boxes) by the end of this half term. We have sent home the assessment sheets highlighting the spellings individuals need to learn. Please spend time practising these with your child. Championship points are awarded to those children who get full marks on their tests.

Sumdog - addition and subtraction fact families within 20. It is really important children become fluent with this skill to aid them with addition and subtraction within 100.

11 children played on sumdog this week. Well done to those children however can we see a few more. If you are having trouble accessing the online activities please let me know and I will do my best to help.

PE

PE is Wednesday. Please send your child in their full PE kit on a Wednesday. This consists of plain black or navy bottoms and a plain white t shirt. The school jumper or cardigan can be worn over the top or a plain dark jumper. No patterns/logos please. We want our children to look as smart in their PE kits as they do in their beautiful uniforms.
