Manchester Road Primary Academy believes that teaching and learning are the key to a great quality education. We are passionate about children being successful and confident when moving to their next steps in education.

We strive to ensure that the children:

  • Are able to read well, enjoy reading and can name books and authors that they are familiar with.
  • Can work well with mathematical concepts, and can use these in real – life situations.
  • Have had opportunities to visit places and have experiences which inspire them, and give a real context for learning.
  • Recognise and respect tools and resources which will help them to learn more effectively.
  • Are confident, can recognise their own strengths and have strategies to deal with situations where they become ‘stuck’.
  • Use questioning and thinking skills to deepen their learning.
  • Develop the skills and knowledge required to establish positive and respectful relationships.
  • Understand how to be healthy and to keep safe in society – both in real – life and on – line.
  • Are aspirational and have a love of learning.

In order to ensure the very best outcomes for our children, the curriculum at Manchester Road has been developed and revised with these key threads:

  • The teaching of Mathematics and English – and in particular reading, will be of the highest quality. Staff will have the tools, resources and professional development to enable this to happen.
  • Behaviour for Learning (BLP) is established throughout the school. Staff and children use this effectively in order to develop learning powers and to teach children the emotional, strategic, social and cognitive aspects of being a successful learner.
  • The welfare of the children is paramount. Children’s good conduct is promoted under the school moto of ‘PRIDE, POSITIVITY, POLITENESS’.
  • Safeguarding and pastoral care are woven into the curriculum and school life to ensure our children feel safe and have strategies for dealing with adverse experiences.

Through the teaching of the La Jolie Ronde scheme of work, children will be able to understand simple spoken and written language, speak aloud and take part in short conversation and write simple sentences in French. They will also learn about the French culture and have an idea about how languages work and how to learn them. We are confident that through the delivery of ‘La Jolie Ronde’ scheme of work that our children will become confident learners of language.
