Welcome Year 3SS. This is where you will find all the relevant information for Year 3SS!
Our attendance for last week was 96%. This needs to improve during our first week back. We had 3 late marks.
On Tuesday, we enjoyed a trip to Hulme Community Garden Centre. It was such good fun. We completed the Stickman Trail, searched for plants and apple pressed to create our own apple juice.
In English, we have focused our learning around Black History. Our key person was Harriet Tubman. We watched a range of videos to develop our knowledge before planning our biography about her inspirational life. We also developed our knowledge of key terms in relation to slavery, using a dictionary and a thesaurus to help us understand. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/true-stories-harriet-tubman/zbh8mfr
We also create a timeline to show the key events of slavery before sharing this with the rest of the school in our assembly.
and created pieces of artwork.
In Maths, we have been developing our knowledge of addition and subtraction. We have focused on 3 digits and used these to add or subtract two-digit amounts. We have recapped on lots of methods using counters, numberlines, part-part whole and column! We chose to stick with column as this helped us to exchange and find answers quickly and correctly!
In French, we have been busy learning numbers to 10, greetings and classroom instructions. We are becoming more fluent and love our lessons!
In Computing we have been looking at coding through Scratch! Our sprite has been taught to move, speak and spin! It has been very exciting developing these skills.
We started our new Design and Technology unit. We will be making our own soup that links in with our Stone Age topic. We tried different soups to help get our taste buds going. We weren't sure about pea and ham ... mainly because of how it looked! But we had a fantastic time. We also researched the importance of nutritional value and had a look at key soup ingredients such as carrots, parsnips, potatoes and onions.
In R.E, we have been learning about Christianity and how Jesus and the Bible are key in this belief. We have looked at parables, the Old and New Testaments and are preparing to look at celebrations.
In Music, we have been using the drums with Mr White and are developing our understanding of rhythm and pitch.
In Reading, we have been developing our dictionary and thesaurus skills through lots of clarifying sessions. We have also been using our skimming and scanning skills to locate answers to a range of comprehension questions.
Our Learning Hero was awarded for always contributing to class discussions and being a friend to everyone.
Our Championship Point winners were Blaise, Jacob and Lusiya.
Our winning house was Self-Belief!
Key information:
Swimming is EVERY MONDAY. PLEASE ensure that your child's clothing is labelled and they are given a bag to carry this in. We have had lots of items go missing and this would help us greatly.
P.E is EVERY WEDNESDAY. Again please ensure a full kit is provided each week. This can remain in school and children can take it home at the end of term.
Home Learning is given out on Wednesdays/Thursdays. Children are expected to complete this by the following Monday. If this is not completed then they will be expected to attend home work club.
Reading books are changed as much as possible throughout the week. The more we read the better writers we will become so we encourage as much as possible but expect at least a book to be changed once a week.
